Wedding Theme Ideas Spotted In Real Weddings

Inspiration

If you’re on the hunt for wedding theme ideas, then this is it! Every week, we publish a real wedding feature on the blog, where we ask newlyweds to share details about their wedding. So, whether you have already chosen your colours but want to refine your theme, or you have no idea where to begin, take a peek at what other couples have chosen for their wedding theme!

All about cars

Peter and Lisa decided to keep things as plain and simple as they could, both at the chapel and the hotel. Since they both love cars, they wove them into their theme! In fact, Peter told Lisa she wasn’t to know what cars would be used for the wedding. He set up 8 wedding cars with the boys – a beautiful convoy of modified cars at the hotel.

They added their own personal touches to the day too! Lisa made a crisp wall to have beside the sweet cart. She decorated it all herself. Their centrepieces were a little different too – a few months before the wedding, Peter started to draw up and design a few different centrepieces using only old car parts and things from the garage. After lots of late nights and endless hours, he had them welded together, rubbed down, primed and painted with a matt copper bronze colour getting a real rustic look!

Sage green and spring theme

Since Sinead and Paul tied the knot in May, they opted for a sage green colour scheme. It goes beautifully with the navy suits they had in mind and the earthy tones which complemented their venue.

Black, burnt orange and white, with an ode to movies

Stephanie and Keith did things a little differently and planned something very unique:

“Our wedding was a little different, we had black tablecloths and chairs covers which I really loved!! The colours were burgundy, black, burnt orange and of course a little bit of white. Theme of our tables was horror movies and Disney/Pixar movies, well our favourite movies.”

Blush and burgundy for Valentine’s Week

To embrace the festivities of Valentine’s Week, Doireann and Ian went with a blush and burgundy colour scheme.

“All I wanted for my wedding was it to be fun. With two small kids I didnt care for the big show. I wanted it to be an intimate affair with friends and family and just have a lot of fun.”

Pink and grey with cherry blossoms

Alison and David got married in Spring time, so they chose light pink and grey for their wedding colours. To go with the colours, they chose gorgeous cherry blossoms for the theme!

“The boys all wore grey suits which really complimented the rose pink of the bridesmaids dresses.  Since we were getting married in an actual castle, we knew we wanted a fairytale…  and we certainly got it. The greys and pinks really went so well with my ivory and nude dress. It all just looked so perfect. Even our cake had cherry blossoms, and the hotel had cherry blossom trees for the tables…  it all just fit so perfectly.”

Neutral colours with pops of blue

For their wedding aesthetic, Laura and Nicky opted for neutral. Laura’s bouquet had lots of white and green shades, while the overall wedding look had pops of blue.

Fresh off the meadow

Diana and Andrei said: “I worked closely with Kim Marie (our florist) to select the right flowers that would compliment our beautiful venue and to give a “fresh off the meadow” atmosphere. We asked Kim to arrange fresh flowers in a deconstructed fashion, with a lot of blush pinks, vibrant purples and fragrant garden roses. Castle Leslie generously provided beautiful candelabras to hold the flowers and candles. We were extremely lucky with a sunny spell on that Sunday as 2023 was one of the wettest summers in history.”

All of their favourite things

Lisa and Kevin couldn’t decide on a wedding theme, so instead of having one, they chose some of their favourite things. These included some of their favourite music, movies, beliefs and colours.

A nod to their Celtic routes

Wallis and Ross said: “We were the first wedding on both sides of our families for a very long time, so our “theme” per say was all about the joining of our families. We had an intimate wedding of 65 guests and included as many nods to our Celtic routes as we could. We shared a drink of Iron Bru from a quaich and had a bag piper pipe us out of the church (Ross is Scottish). Our first dance morphed into a ceilidh dance that we had our bridal party join in for. Wallis had both thistles and hydrangeas (her Granny’s favourite flower) in her bouquet, so we kind of fell into the colour scheme of purple and greens, which turned out beautifully!”
