Our lovely couple, Natalie and Ryan travelled all the way from Massachusetts to hold their summer wedding at Waterford Castle. As they originally wanted different things from their Big Day, heading to Ireland was the perfect option. “Ryan wanted a big wedding and I wanted something small. I mentioned Ireland as I had never been before and Ryan’s family was of Irish decent. Ryan fell in love with the idea and from there we chose a small guest list of about 40 people. The actual planning was all done via the internet. We found Waterford Castle first, then the rest just kind of fell into place,” explained Natalie.

The couple first met during eighth grade! “I had a crush on Natalie in eighth grade, but never had the courage to speak to her. Years later, we ran into each other on the train in Boston while I was still in law school. I realised that not only was she even better looking than I remembered, but she was smart and funny and I had a blast hanging out with her. Fast forward a couple years (by no means had I forgotten about her) and l eventually found her on LinkedIn and asked her to a business lunch. She replied that lunch was a strange request and either we get a beer and dinner or she would pass. We had dinner,” said Ryan.

Natalie wore a unique layered tulle and silk dupion dress she had found on Etsy and accessorised with the beautiful oversize pearl bracelet. Wanting her maids to feel totally comfortable she gave them simple instructions to choose whatever they wanted and felt good in!

Ryan and his groomsmen rented suits from Suits You in Dublin which saved them the hassle of travelling with them. Ryan accessorised with quirky cufflinks gifted by Natalie. “I call Ryan my Rye-toast or sometimes just Toast now. With my last name Fertitta, most people think it’s pronounced like the Italian word for omelette, frittata, so Ryan calls me Omelette…these cuff links were too perfect for words for our wedding day!” she explained.

“With planning a wedding overseas, I had to let so much go. I picked vendors based on recommendations and didn’t want to be travelling with a lot of stuff so I didn’t worry about the details I normally would have. I am happy to say, I am so glad we chose the overseas wedding we did. The day itself was like a fairytale, I never felt rushed and even was able to eat my full five course meal… which was delicious! Our highlight was seeing each other! As cheesy as that sounds, it really is an amazing moment. We chose not to do a first look, so our first time seeing each other was as I came down the aisle. Second, of course, would be dancing and enjoying the party with our guests,” added Natalie.

Natalie’s Advice

Do less! It’s a big day, and it’s a lot of money, but I’ve seen so many brides and grooms get caught up in what didn’t go right. Your wedding day will be amazing no matter what, so just enjoy the whole thing from planning to day of.
